LICK MY CLAM- REDWING EDITION!!!

Join us Sept 24-26, 2010 on Masonboro Island - an 8 mile stretch of uninhabited beauty!   We're camping, runnng trail, swimming, drinking beer, and whatever else goes along with a great beach camping weekend.

Easiest way to get there: Masonboro Water Taxi, James Thorton, 910-540-2260.  James figured for around $20 he will take you out there from Trails End Park, and then come get you later and bring you back.  You can load your stuff on his boat, and he'll drop you off on the North End of Masonboro Island.  He said he's cool with people dragging camping gear out with them on his boat. Trail's End Park has free parking. Just drive to the end of Trail's End Road off of Masonboro Loop Road, Wilmington, NC. Call James and work out timing.  There's a convenient load/unload pair of floating docks away from the boat ramp where you can get yourself and your stuff into his boat.  He's available on weekends, and after 4 pm during the week.  I think a couple of us will be out there already on Thursday (Fart Connor, Dahlia, Udder Sucker, and J Mo so far.)       Masonboro Water Taxi - James Thorton - 910-540-2260 - Let him know you're with Wrightsville Beach Hash House Harriers.

If you have a boat, there is plenty of room on the sound side to safely anchor your boat.  During the summer, it's normal to see a lot of boats anchored there for the night. So no worries about dealing with waves and swells off of the ocean. It's the north side of Masonboro Island, in Masonboro Channel, on the sound side. You could launch from Wrightsville Beach Wildlife Ramp or Trail's End Park.

A few of us plan to use kayaks and canoes.  You could launch from Wrightsville Beach, go south in Banks Channel across Masonboro Inlet.  The channel straight across on the other side of Masonboro Inlet is called Masonboro Channel, and we'll be landing somewhere along there.  From Trail's End you go to the left, traveling north, veer to the right into Masonboro Channel, and you'll arrive before reaching Masonboro Inlet.  You may want to contact Udder Sucker at 910-916-2775 if you plan to paddle and need help ironing out those plans, and/or use him as a guide to get you out there. If paddling, you will probably want to take tidal flow into consideration.

We're keeping it simple.  We will set up a campout location on Masonboro Island.  We'll bring a couple party tents.  We'll lay a trail. A canoe, kayak, boat, water taxi will be able to get you there and back. Come and go as you please. Use what you normally spend on registration to provide yourself whatever you desire. Any questions, e-mail chrisrezac@hotmail.com or call Udder Sucker or Tastes Like Your Brother at 910-916-2775.  Some low-key beach drinkin' in the sunshine and ocean is the goal. Hope a few can make it!

Remember, this will be primitive camping.  Bring everything you need to be comfortable, but not more than you can carry.  Bring cans - no glass at the beach. The cheap, I think around 7" plastic stakes that you can pick up at Walmart, Great Outdoor Provision, etc. work very well to stake down your tent in the sand. A simple, cheap, plastic yellow rainsuit can make you perfectly comfortable in the rain.  Plus, you know how it is.  Bring bad weather gear, the sun will shine all weekend.  Hope for the best, plan for the worst, and it's all a great time!

Ignore the rego below! That was from last year. No registration necessary this year, and it's a free event. BYO everything.
